About

Stony Ridge Observatory, Inc... a Purpose - Driven Astronomical Entity

Amateurs at Heart but Rooted in Service to Science and Society

We are a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation dedicated to astronomical research and outreach. Our organization supports member projects of discovery, data collection, and skill-building with the intent to make contributions to science. A parallel aim is  to equip the membership for public engagement with a special focus on STEM education in astronomy.

This has been the charter of SRO since its inception.  It  strikes a sensible balance between those who have invested in the establishment and upkeep of the facility as well as generating curiosity and interest in continuing our mission.

Membership and Contact

I'm Not an "Expert," Can I Join??

Membership application is open to anyone with an interest in astronomy or the outreach we do at SRO. Graduated levels of involvement have been established and we invite prospective members to explore the possibilities. All candidates will be asked to  complete a request / questionnaire which then is reviewed by the Board of Directors for approval.

How You Can Help Bring the Heavens to the Earth

Stony-Ridge Observatory has big plans to leverage imaging technologies that will result in wider dissemination of content captured “live” or for rebroadcast. This is a most exciting upgrade to the outreach program and is certain to bring “more of the mountain to the masses.”

The capital outlay for such media projects and for general facility upkeep can be, well…astronomical! Your donation to SRO will be gratefully received and judiciously applied. As a benefit to you, your support may be tax-deductible, and what’s not to like about that?
