Asterisms - a Catch-All Collection of Topics

Asterisms are familiar patterns of stars that have no official designation. They are easily recognized – the Big Dipper is one – but while decidely astronomical in nature, they are otherwise  unrelated and unclassified. That’s the inspiration behind this grouping of pages – a hodgepod of topics in connected to SRO and its interests but hard to categorize within the other pages of this site.

Observatory Life

While it is true that astronomers are denizens of the night, they are perfectly comfortable coming out in the daytime and won’t be harmed by looking at their own reflection in a mirror… 🙂

Actually, there are good reasons to visit the observatory while the sun shines and several of those are depicted on the pages listed below. The “Gallery” is a kind of catch-all for photos and topics that don’t seem to fit anywhere else.

Consider it a cloudy-skies destination when curious to explore life at SRO that doesn’t involve looking up…and in some cases, encourages just the opposite!

John Rogers likes what he sees – the bright reflection of a newly aluminized mirror (2017) after its deterioration from age and as a result of damage caused by the “Station” wildfire in 2009.
